Lip Sync '12 Images

Lip Sync '12 was another year of performance fun for kids and adults alike. We had two shows, Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5, with a total of 49 acts and 122 kids. We brought back the popular "mystery acts", this year featuring the teachers and administration as well as PC Penguin dancing to "I Like to Move It" with moving boxes as props. How fitting! Both shows ended with the grand finale "Cotton Eyed Joe" dance for all the performers.

The shows were coordinated and produced by Linda Harmon and Paul Trunfio, with emcees Jen Gero and Stephen O'Riorden. The SPTO would like to thank the many volunteers who stepped forward, including Nicole Hatlevig who "shadowed" the show this year and will be coordinating next year. Without all of the volunteers, these shows could not have happened.

Center School Winter Concert

On Tuesday, the 4th and 5th grade choruses as well as the 5th grade band of Center School treated parents and friends to a fabulous winter concert, featuring classics from Disney as well as Sound of Music. Thanks to chorus director Judy Dyer and band director Jessica Nolan for all their efforts.

Stow Schools K-8 Directory

We hope you are appreciating your Stow School's Directory! It is so nice to have all the school and student information consolidated in one place. Many thanks to all those parents involved in putting together the directory and to all the wonderful advertisers!

This year, we are treating families for the holidays... and sent by email a condensed PDF file of the entire School Directory. You are welcome to save that file to your computer, your smart phone... anywhere you think it will come in handy. It is a searchable document as well, so it's like having an electronic phonebook at your fingertips. That document is not on the Internet. Please remember that the information contained in the directory is for the personal use of Stow students and their families, and that any other private or commercial use of the information is prohibited.

Another possibility for you: We are offering an invitation to purchase an additional copy of the printed directory for $6. This is great if you need an extra copy for the car or for work (or if you end up misplacing it throughout the year!). There are 100 extra copies available for purchase (first come, first serve).

If you wish to order, please do so below and your order will be delivered to your child's homeroom teacher.

Wishing Snowflakes

The holiday season is here!

The "Wishing Snowflakes" are on display in the Pompo & Center School lobbies!

JOIN IN THE SNOWFLAKE FUN AND DELIVER A WISH!!

If you plan to give a teacher or staff member a gift this season, the Wishing Snowflakes contain ideas from the staff members themselves for items they can use in their classrooms/offices. On each snowflake, you will find a mix of ideas suitable for one family's giving or for 'joint' family giving.

To use the Snowflake, simply detach the arm of the Snowflake listing the gift you wish to give. Once you have the gift, deliver it directly to the staff member. If a particular snowflake is empty when you get there, please consider another!

So, when you are dropping off the kids or picking them up at school, or have a moment to stop in the schools, please take a minute to grab a wish from the snowflake wish lists!

Halloween Dance & Party Slideshow

This past Saturday, 175 students and their parents braved the weather and gathered at Hale Middle School to attend the Stow Parent Teacher Organization's first ever K-5 Halloween Dance.

The dance was a smashing success, with the help of DJ "Michael Pride" who provided two fun-filled hours of entertainment. A hula hoop contest and mummy wrapping contest were just two of the many activities enjoyed by our elementary school students. A visit from PC the Penguin helped to end the event on an extra exciting note.

Thank you to all of our fellow SPTO members for volunteering to help with the event. As always a huge thank you to the parents of our elementary students who came, volunteered and donated their time and money to make this event such a great time for the kids. Without the help of our school families, events like this would be impossible to pull off. Your help with this event is truly appreciated. We are looking forward to making this an annual event.

2011 School Directory Artwork

Every year the SPTO publishes a K-8 school directory so that families can communicate more easily with one another. One of the highlights of the directory is the inclusion of artwork submitted by students to support a theme. This year's theme was "stepping up." In this slideshow, all the submissions are shown. The winners are Gretchen Rein (Grade 2) and Maddie Saart (Grade 3). Runners up are Katarina Spasojevic (Kindergarten), Ashley Sweet (Grade 5), and Dylan Whalen (Grade 3). Thank you to all the students who make the directory a visual joy to read!

Fourth Grade Revels Program

One element of the fourth grade curriculum is learning about the history of immigration in the United States. To complement that curriculum, the Stow PTO funded an in-school performance of "An American Journey" by the Revels Repertory Company. The 45-minute program was held yesterday in the Center School gym for the entire grade. Two children from each class participated in the performance, and spent the past several weeks learning songs and their lines.

The live performance of stories, songs, and dances told the journey of three Irish, Italian and Eastern European Jewish families to America in the early 1900s.

The single largest expenditure of the Stow PTO, approximately 40%, funds such arts and cultural enrichment programs. We fund two programs of this type per grade per year, plus all-school programs. PC Penguin Pays a Visit

Word on the street was that "PC Penguin" did not get to meet the morning kindergarten students in her (or his?) visit last month. PC had a wonderful visit at Pompo, which began with doing some work for Ms. Marashio. She then waddled throughout the school to greet all the kindergarten and first grade classrooms, with the most common comment being "That's a real person in there!" "PC" did have a tiny mishap and got a small boo boo on her beak. But, after a quick trip to Mrs. Linstrom's health room, her beak was as good as new. She bumped into a wonderful SPTO Mom and then it was off to visit more kids.

Halloween Dance and Party for Pompo-Center

Calling all Boos and Gouls...

The Stow PTO invites you to our first ever K-5 "Halloween Dance & Party"!

When: Saturday, October 29 from 2-4

Where: Hale School Gymnasium

Admission: $10 per child at door (online pre-registration deadline has passed)

Costumes are optional and for the safety of all children, we will not allow costume accessories that can potentially be harmful.

Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase in the cafeteria (at $1 per item).

For safety reasons, only Pompo and Center students will be allowed to this event. There will be no drop-offs. A responsible adult is required to be in attendance, and an adult may feel free to bring their own Pompo-Center children as well as children of friends who are also Pompo-Center students. No non-Pompo or Center siblings, please.

School Spirit Comes to Pompo

On Friday, "PC Penguin" made a surprise visit to Pompo, meeting all the K-3 students as well as many of the staff during lunch and recess. Some had never seen our schools' mascot in person before, including the new principal and assistant principal as well as the kindergarten students. PC's vision was even tested and, not surprisingly, it was determined glasses may be needed in the near future.
