The parent volunteers at all three of our K-8 public schools have a long tradition of helping in the schools. If you are a parent, we will be asking for help throughout the year!
Below is a partial list of support services with which we are involved.
Stow School Directory
The Stow School Directory will be sent home with your youngest child in the fall, usually October. We hope that you find it useful! Please know that this directory is for the private use of our Pompo, Center, and Hale families, and is NOT to be used for commercial purposes. If you would like to purchase additional copies, they are available for $5 each and can be purchased from the school secretaries. The SPTO would like to thank the organizers for their time and effort in pulling this together and also our advertisers for their generosity.
ProjectPrep Service - Pompo/Center
ProjectPrep Service volunteers provide the teachers at both Pompo and Center assistance with their photocopying, laminating and other class project preparation needs. Volunteers sign up for one day a month (or as your schedule permits) to go into the school and work on requests from the staff. The average time commitment is 2-3 hours per volunteer day. For information, contact: projectprep@stowpto.org
Library Inventory - Pompo/Center
The SPTO works with the librarians to recruit volunteers to help the libraries at Pompo and Center with annual inventory and volunteers to help with some of the daily tasks (shelving, checking books in, etc.). Volunteers are welcome whenever your schedule permits - weekly, bi-weekly or for just a few minutes after volunteering in your child's classroom!
Wishing Snowflakes - Pompo/Center
Each year, the SPTO sponsors the Wishing Snowflakes at the holidays. The snowflakes are filled with ideas from the staff themselves for gift giving to your favorite Pompo or Center staff member. Snowflake wishes in years past have included everyday supplies for the classroom, games for indoor recess, books and even electric pencil sharpeners. Wishing snowflakes are hung on the bulletin boards in the entry hallway of each school and are typically available around Thanksgiving.
Parent/Teacher Conferences - Pompo/Center
At Pompo and Center, the SPTO coordinates families to provide baked goods and other goodies for the staff during the parent/teacher conference weeks each December and March. The staff of both schools appreciate this gesture to help get them through all the meetings and commitments of those days! At Hale, the PSG allocates funds for snacks.
Staff Appreciation Week
The SPTO sponsors Staff Appreciation Week in the late spring, providing special meals on alternating days: Breakfast on Monday, Luncheon on Wednesday and Dessert Buffet on Friday. Volunteers provide the majority of food for all the meals - breakfast breads, coffee cakes, fruit platters, luncheon salads, entrees and desserts for our well-deserving teachers and support staff. Look for additional information including volunteer forms.
Science-Engineering Enrichment - Pompo/Center
We are sponsoring a new initiative for 2011-12, to increase students' access to science. We will be hosting themed hands-on activity-based science focus groups by grade throughout the year leading to a Science-Engineering Enrichment Evening open to the entire school community in Spring 2012.
School Spirit - Pompo/Center
Throughout the year at Pompo and Center we host school spirit days which are themed, such as "Red Sox Day" or "Crazy Hat Day." In addition, we periodically have visits from our school mascot PC Penguin.
Specials Volunteers - Pompo/Center
Also new for 2011-12, we are building teams of volunteers to assist in teaching the specials of art, music, and library.
In addition, there are literally dozens of opportunities to help out in the schools. Help coordinate the school photos day. Assist the Lions Club in their annual hearing and vision screenings. Chaperone a Hale dance! Help teach the Sunshine Math and test your analytical skills!
The opportunities are nearly endless, limited only by your imagination and willingness to give of your time, and the experience is rewarding!
