  • Services Co-Chair needed for next school year 2010-2011!
This division of the PTO is responsible for providing many services to the school community at both Pompo and Center. Some of the important services provided include: production of the school directory, hosting a kindergarten parent orientation, coordinating the ProjectPrep service for the staff, organizing the wishing snowflakes at holiday time, organizing baking volunteers for teacher conferences and hosting the staff appreciation event in the spring. The new co-chair will be working with an experienced co-chair. The time commitment of this position varies depending upon the month of the year. The busiest times are September and October, early December, and April/May. Normally there is a team of people who work on each of the service projects listed above, and typically we recruit parents to head up coordinating special events (like Kindergarten Orientation, Picture Day, and Staff Appreciation). It’s fun, a great way to meet other active parents, and a fabulous way to network with the staff at Pompo and Center. Call Kristen Straub (the co-chair) at 978-897-3906 for more information!!

  • Center ProjectPrep Coordinator needed for next school year 2010-11
The ProjectPrep Program is a volunteer service organized and run by parents to assist teachers with tasks such as photocopying, laminating and other projects. Helping with ProjectPrep allows teachers more time for classroom and curriculum preparation.
A coordinator is needed at Center School in order for this program to continue next year. The coordinator's responsibilities include making a volunteer schedule every couple of months, starting up the program in September and recruiting new volunteers in September. The time committment is about 2 or 3 hours of time in early September and then less than an hour every few months to make up the schedule. To learn more, please call Kathleen Rusilas (current coordinator) at (978) 897-0528.

  • Arts & Cultural Chair needed for next school year 2010-11
The Arts & Cultural Chair oversees the use of SPTO funds for additional curriculum-enhancing programs for each grade. The programs, chosen by the teachers in each grade, are booked by a volunteer Grade Representative who books acts as a liaison between each grade's Lead Teacher and the Arts & Cultural Chair.
In the past we have hosted such programs as the New England Aquarium, who traveled to Pompo to teach the 1st graders about tide pools. The Discovery Museum has come to Center with "Rocks & Minerals" for the 3rd Grade and "Physical States of Matter" for the 4th Grade. Other past programs include author and illustrator Lita Judge, The Pumpernickel Puppets, Bach to Beatles, Odaiko Japanese Drummers, and many more.
The Arts & Cultural Chair duties include managing the yearly budget, receiving information for new programs, working with the Lead Teachers, Grade Representatives and Treasurer, booking whole-school programs for both Pompo and Center and attending monthly PTO meetings. It is a fun way to become more involved in the schools and the PTO, meet many new friends and have a better idea of what each grade is studying—all without a huge time commitment.
